Trinamool Congress MLA Javed Ahmed Khan surrendered before the Alipore Court on Thursday in connection with a post-election violence case linked to unrest in Kolkata’s Tiljala area following the West Bengal Assembly election results. The Kasba MLA had been named in an FIR registered after violence broke out in the area soon after the election results were declared on May 4.
According to court sources, the FIR was lodged against 10 individuals in connection with the incident, and Javed Ahmed Khan’s name was included in the complaint filed before police authorities. The case was registered at Tiljala Police Station following allegations related to violence and disturbances in the locality after the election outcome.
Reports stated that the other accused individuals named in the case had already secured bail earlier. However, Javed Khan had not appeared before the court until Thursday afternoon. He was seen arriving at Alipore Court at around 2:30 pm to surrender in connection with the case.
Court sources said the Trinamool Congress MLA formally appeared before the court in the matter related to the violence that erupted in Tiljala after the Assembly election results. Proceedings in the case are being conducted under the jurisdiction of Alipore Court following the registration of the FIR at Tiljala Police Station.
